- one of the most frequent accompaniments through dream images; the unconscious is helping the dreamer in complicated situations, but also conversely shows negative aspects of the dreamer's behavior and actions.
- the most important help of friends takes place in entering the inner circles of the unconscious (see the Map of the Unconscious chapter in the book "Secrets of the Unconscious Order") when friends help overcome very complex difficulties of the individual archetypes and are thus a guiding element on the path to knowledge; the help of friends usually appears in the Hero archetype.
- providing the dreamer with information from the distant past or information concerning the future so that the dreamer understands the function of non-synchronous time in the unconscious and in dreams (see the Past and Future Visions archetype).
- with negative traits: can represent a personification of the Shadow archetype*65.
- trying to lead the dreamer into an abyss: see Abyss.
- the friend in the dream is a child or newborn: the quality linked to the dream figure is growing within the dreamer toward a new life.
