The Dream Book of Self-Knowledge

Buying

  • frequent buying in dreams attests to the fact that the dreamer is preoccupied with the world of things, has neglected the emotional relations that have kept him in contact with the emotional level.
  • at a market: you are unfortunately trying to strengthen your personality based on the stale model of others; even though you are surrounding yourself with splendid things, the persona (personality) does not replace true individuality (see Persona and Individuality archetypes).
  • once a person begins to limit his desires, to do away with unnecessary wishes in waking consciousness (which is a prerequisite for the spiritual path), he will inevitably cease to buy in dreams and will not fill his mind with useless symbols; replacing these will be emotional experiences and then even the individual archetypes, leading a person toward an understanding of the transpersonal self (see the Map of the Unconscious chapter in the book "Secrets of the Unconscious Order").
  • a person does not have to buy anything (not even food) in dreams; he will get what he deserves without buying, so that in dreams we can take literally the biblical adage: "Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!" (Luke 12:24)
  • a pineapple: desire for happiness and a good mood.
  • a car: beware of pride.
  • shoes: attempt at finding a new relationship, from which, however, there will not be much joy.
  • potatoes: the dreamer must come to terms with the unexpected pressure of sexuality and find the strength to control it.
  • a coat: desire to look better in others' eyes:
  • an apartment: creating new content of the dreamer's being
  • holidays and shopping: the dreamer is obstructing the path to emotions with other useless things.
  • silk: distinct improvement of financial situation; the color of the silk can tell us what the increase in money is doing to the dreamer (see Color).
  • bread: you still have the chance to choose between egotistical living or altruistic activities*58.
  • a transportation ticket: the dreamer is capably of rapidly (according to the means of transportation) mastering a certain life period full of movement, changes and personal growth.
  • medicine: an illness is approaching (usually within a month), according to the type of medicine we can recognize whether the illness will relate to the body, emotions or to unavoidable karmic causes: see Medicine.
  • soda: you like hearing flattery.
  • meat: the dreamer is submitting to power of instincts and a sexual mindset prevails with him.
  • a newspaper: the attempt to see into certain relationships or events and the longing to know their causes.
  • clothes: an attempt at strengthening the personality (for more on the negative role of the personality see the Persona archetype).
  • clothes in a bazaar: you are striving for an awkward improvement of your personality based on the stale model of others.
  • buying someone clothes: flattering others or the desire to establish a relationship between the giver and the recipient, although such a relationship does not last for long since it is based on the admiration of one person for another.
  • oil: the desire to be blessed; see Oil.
  • beer: the dreamer has the courage to deal with subliminal inner contents.
  • glass (especially beautiful, cut or artistic): expresses the longing to discover beautiful, though fragile emotional relationships within oneself.
  • a building plot, construction site: the nature of this act depends on the future building.
  • Christmas cake: an attempt at unification since several pieces of dough are twisted into a single whole in a Christmas cake (unity).
  • eggs: symbolizes the active attempt to change or find a new emotional relationship.
  • ice cream: this image expresses the dreamer's subconscious attempt at a seamless connection of emotional anima – animus (see Anima – Animus and Coniunctio archetype).
  • for other bought objects and services see the individual symbols.
