The Dream Book of Self-Knowledge

Rubber

  • enables us, in the form of a boat or inflatable chair, to float through emotions (water), to resist emotions (water); temporarily gives the feeling of safety and security, but does not protect us from fire (acts) that is the result of inwardly directed energy (concentration, meditation etc.), or, in the worst case, from consequences of an excess of suppressed passions and instincts:
  • rubber boots: allow for the safe crossing of the realm of instincts (mud, manure, etc.) and a visit to the emotional level.
  • rubber shoe covers (in hospitals): allows for entrance to the emotional level and even a temporary stay in it.
  • rubber gloves: symbolize the dreamer's desire not to soil the soul in contact with the material world and in emotional conflicts with other people.
  • racing on a rubber boat: dangerous prioritizing of the ego; can lead to a crisis if the dreamer does not take radical steps to change his current behavior.
  • rubber tools (mallets, bells, brackets, etc.): unconscious expressions of birth experiences that emerge at a certain life phase to the surface of waking consciousness (see Basic Perinatal Matrix archetype).
  • simile "like rubber": very frequent in dreams since in this way we best realize the elasticity and changeability of phenomena and shapes of the external world or malleability of emotions.
