The Dream Book of Self-Knowledge

King, queen

  • in the world they represent independent executors of a nation's will and in the unconscious they symbolize the executors of the will to elevate one's essential components (instincts to emotions and emotions to spirituality), even if the lower components do not approve of this and use the ego to prevent such elevation, just like an ordinary person does not submit to the benefit of the whole (nation, humanity).
  • seeing mistakes of a king (queen): they paradoxically lead the dreamer to the danger of apotheosis*23, since reason is subconsciously put before will in favor of the lower components of being (see Treasure archetype).
  • being a king or queen: overestimating one's values – apotheosis (for more on this dangerous phenomenon that stops a person's smooth development see the Treasure archetype).
  • a fairy tale of a king or queen: symbolizes the developing process within the dreamer; a process that forms the future integral individuality from a person's mythological foundation; see Tale.
  • giving an important gift to a king or queen: a very important turning point in a person's life since the dreamer has humbly confronted the controlling element of the unconscious and thus frees himself from the temptations of the material world so that he walks the path of emotions toward spiritual horizons; when giving gifts to a king there are often present the dreamer's children or siblings, which symbolizes the path of unification of the female (anima) and male (animus) components; for more on the unification of antitheses see the Anima – Animus and Coniunctio archetypes.
  • seeing a good king (queen) or his (her) positive qualities: qualities linked to the dream king (queen) attract the dreamer's attention so that they soon become the dreamer's actual qualities.
  • a king directly linked to a queen takes on a different meaning in the event that it involves traditional psychological symbols of divided emotional components of the anima – animus; only after their connection, so colorfully described by alchemy, is the spiritual child born as the representative of a new state (see archetypes of Anima – Animus, Alchemist and Coniunctio).
  • in a certain phase of spiritual development they can also represent higher forms, in which the queen becomes a creative principle and the queen an element that revitalizes this principle.
  • courtiers at a royal court: important help on the path to spirituality and in the process of unification on an emotional level, though with the great threat of pride and repeated falls to the instinctual level.
  • a sword in the hands of a king: Divine will and divine justice.
  • coronation: see Coronation.
  • King Ječmínek: see Ječmínek.
  • also see Royal.
