*69 Catharsis

*69 Catharsis. A person desirous of positive intensive emotional experiences is like a stormy sea in which he will not find a single reflection of the world or sky. High waves provide such a person with frequent emotional excitement when the top of the wave offers him a slightly larger view of the world; yet he then falls into depression between two other high waves and suffers incredible fear of his existence. Catharsis removes from within the amassed negativity and replaces it with positive conscious content. This is done during emotional extremes when we discharge dangerous inner pressure through harmless external activities (sports, running, exercising, punching a pillow or other physical activity). Catharsis then acts as a safety valve guarding the quality of inner contents.
